1. 43 MPs took oath as Ministers in first mega Cabinet expansion by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7 July 2021. The Cabinet reshuffle saw the induction of 13 Lawyers, 6 Doctors, 7 former Civil Servants and 5 Engineers into the Council.

2. Former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been appointed as the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Minister of AYUSH.

3. With the induction of Sarbananda Sonowal, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and Pratima Bhowmik into the Union Council of Ministers today, the number of central ministers from the northeastern states has risen to five.

4. Amazon India launched its first Digital Kendra, a brick and mortar resource centre that will assist kiranas and small enterprises to go digital, in Surat, Gujarat.

5. BJP leader and former Gujarat minister Mangubhai Chaganbhai Patel took oath as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh. He is the 30th Governor of Madhya Pradesh.

6. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched India’s first FASTag or Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based parking facility to reduce the time for entry and payment. The facility was launched at the Kashmere Gate metro station.

7. Women’s Asian Cup in India will be held in Mumbai and Pune after the Asian Football Confederation dropped Bhubaneswar and Ahemdabad as venues to minimise the travelling time for participants and ensure an “optimum environment” for a bio-secure bubble.

8. Indian economist Kaushik Basu has been awarded the Humboldt Research Award for Economics. The award was conferred on him by Professor Dr Hans-Bernd Schäfer of Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany. A former chief economist of the World Bank, Basu is currently a professor of Economics at Cornell University. He also served as the Government of India’s chief economic advisor from 2009 to 2012. Basu is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India.

9. N Venudhar Reddy, an Indian Information Service, IIS Officer of 1988 batch took charge as Director General of All India Radio.

10. Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has decided to include Retail and Wholesale trade as MSMEs but only for the limited purpose of Priority Sector Lending.
